چکیده

Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is an effective local tumor therapy performed by the administration of chemotherapeutic drugs followed by the application of local high-voltage electric pulses.1, 2 The electric pulses cause transient structural changes (electroporation) of tumor cell membranes and thus increase the entrance of the chemotherapeutic drugs. This potentiates the chemotherapeutic effect and lowers the required drug dose.3 Numerous studies have demonstrated ECT to be a very efficient treatment in various tumor types; in recent years, it has become a treatment of choice for cutaneous and subcutaneous tumor nodules of different histologies.4-9 Two conditions have to be met for ECT to be efficient: 1) a sufficient amount of chemotherapeutic drug has to be present in the Radiol Oncol 2008; 42(2): 93-101. doi:10.2478/v10019-008-0005-5

Relative Electropermeability and Electric Pulse Effectiveness in Human Breast Adenocarcinoma: An in vitro Study

Objective(s) This study was carried out in order to evaluate the effects of electrochemotherapy, electrical pulses and chemotherapeutic drugs on the killing of cancerous cells and their probable synergistic effects. Materials and Methods Electrochemotherapy treatments conducted on MCF-7 cell line derived from human breast adenocarcinoma tumor using four chemotherapeutic drugs including bleom...

Antitumor effectiveness of electrochemotherapy with cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II) in mice.

One of the ways to increase drug delivery into cells and tissues is by a local application of short, intense electric pulses, i.e., electropermeabilization. This approach is used in electrochemotherapy to potentiate antitumor effectiveness of chemotherapeutic drugs. To determine whether electropermeabilization can potentiate antitumor effectiveness of cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II) (CDDP), el...

Effect of Pulse-Modulated GSM-900 MHz Electromagnetic Field on the Electrochemotherapy Efficacy of 4T-1 Cells

Introduction: Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is a cancer treatment modality to permeabilize cell membrane facilitating the non-permeant molecules to gain access to the cytosol of cells. Nevertheless, environmental electromagnetic fields (EMFs) may disturb the efficiency of ECT. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of EMFs 900 MHz pulse-modulated by 217 Hz extremely low-frequency fields ...

Towards treatment planning and treatment of deep-seated solid tumors by electrochemotherapy

BACKGROUND Electrochemotherapy treats tumors by combining specific chemotherapeutic drugs with an intracellular target and electric pulses, which increases drug uptake into the tumor cells. Electrochemotherapy has been successfully used for treatment of easily accessible superficial tumor nodules. In this paper, we present the first case of deep-seated tumor electrochemotherapy based on numeric...

Electrode commutation sequence for honeycomb arrangement of electrodes in electrochemotherapy and corresponding electric field distribution.

Electrochemotherapy is a treatment based on combination of chemotherapeutic drug and electroporation. It is used in clinics for treatment of solid tumours. For electrochemotherapy of larger tumours multiple needle electrodes were already suggested. We developed and tested electrode commutation circuit, which controls up to 19 electrodes independently. Each electrode can be in one of three possi...
